It’s Never Too Late
Have you ever thought about your bucket list? You know, the list of things you’d like to do, see, or accomplish before your time on earth ends? Or are you one of those people who lives one day at a time, just trying to get through it and move on to the next day?
Personally, I LOVE the idea of creating a bucket list. Until recently, I hadn’t given much thought to it, being a busy mom and trying to focus on raising three young men. But now, I’m at a point in my life where I truly enjoy dreaming and planning big things. I believe you’re never too OLD or too YOUNG to create one. I’ve even talked about bucket lists with my sons. It’s never too late to create yours!
What Brings You Joy?
I know now that the world is much bigger than my little bubble. There’s SO much I want to do and see. Bucket lists give you direction, they give you focus, and they give you PURPOSE. There’s my favorite word again, purpose! When you create a bucket list, you give life to your dreams.
Bucket lists don’t have to be complicated either. I even added a few “easy” things to mine so I wouldn’t feel like a failure if I didn’t achieve them. Things like taking a walk every day. Visiting a new coffee shop once a week – the coffee lover in me loves doing this!
Here’s what you need to remember when creating your bucket list – what are you dreams? What do you want to experience? What will bring you joy? Whether it’s going back to school, learning a new skill, traveling, getting fit, learning an instrument…think of things that will bring you JOY and FULFILLMENT. Another great question to ask yourself is, if you had UNLIMITED time, money, and resources, what would you do?
My Bucket List
I’m going to share with you some of my big bucket list items. To start, for years, I’ve wanted to study linguistics. I’m so fascinated by that field of study. I’d absolutely LOVE to actually take classes on it…not just read books, but attend classes to really get a deep understanding of it.
Here’s a big one…traveling! There are SO many places I haven’t been but would love to go. I’ve always wanted to visit Australia, and I WILL some day! I would also love to see Rome. Not just for the beautiful sites, but I want to walk the same paths that the Apostle Paul walked. And let’s not forget that delicious Italian food and wine! I want to go to Jerusalem. I’d love to sit in a pub in Ireland; I don’t even drink beer, but how fun would it be to sit in an Irish pub and listen to Irish music?
Do I have any Chip and Joanna fans in here? Waco, Texas is a big bucket list place to visit for me. I want to stop in their Magnolia home store and see the silos and shop in the market. I also want to go to San Francisco and bicycle across the Golden Gate Bridge. I want to walk down the Grand Canyon. Not ride on a donkey, but I want to actually WALK down and then back up. How fun would it be to go on a safari? I also want to make it a goal to go on my mission trip to Haiti every year. It’s so fulfilling for me and brings me so much joy.
I recently added the idea of going to a hockey game at the Winter Olympics to my bucket list. In case you didn’t know, I’m a hockey mom – all three of my sons have played for years. There’s just something about the feeling of being at the rink…it’s such an exciting sport. Maybe I could even knock out two birds with one stone, and the Olympics could be in Australia or some other place I want to visit anyway! There is so much traveling I’d still like to do. Where would you go?
Find Your Purpose
I have truly found inspiration by creating my bucket list. You only live once, and life is short. Every time I check another item off my list, I feel more fulfilled and accomplished than ever.
Here’s my challenge to you, if you’re up for it. Spend some time focusing on your DIRECTION and PURPOSE. Ask yourself those questions I listed above and think of at least 10 items to add to your bucket list. Leave me a comment below with some of your hopes and dreams, I can’t wait to hear about them!
