Prospecting Starts With Love
Prospecting new customers seems like the most straightforward and obvious part of running a direct marketing business, doesn’t it? It’s definitely not…it’s actually one of the most challenging and involved aspects.
I’ve been in my direct marketing company for over 6 years now. I’m SO blessed by what it’s done for me. I’ve been very successful, and I credit much of that success to HOW I’ve chosen to prospect. I’ve been training my team on this concept recently with great results. It all starts with LOVE. Let me explain.
Aimlessly vs. Intentionally
When I first started with my business, I was clueless. I aimlessly tried connecting with people, without knowing exactly what to say or how to sell my product. I felt like I began to sound like an infomercial…no personal connection whatsoever!
I decided that wasn’t me. This realization changed my business. I began to prospect new customers in a very intentional, transparent, vulnerable way. I shared ME. I let people know that there was more to me than what meets the eye; that I was not just this one-dimensional infomercial trying to make a quick sale.
I started sharing my own personal platform. I shared my desires for my business. I shared my why, and my PURPOSE.
Bringing Value to Others
Purpose is one of my favorite words. When I received a vehicle from my direct marketing company a few years ago, the first thing I did was register a license plate that read “PURPOSE.” I believe we all have a purpose on this earth, and mine is to bring value to others.
I started sharing this concept with new customers. What was this business doing for ME personally? How was it bringing VALUE to me, and how would it bring value to YOU?
Have you ever considered what your business is doing for YOU? I’ll give you a hint…it’s not about money! You may think money is the most important part of running a business, but it’s SO much more than that. You must ask yourself – what was the driving force behind you saying YES? Mine was that I’m passionate about showing women their PURPOSE. I want women to feel confident and believe in themselves.
Eliminating Fear in Prospecting
Empowering women is my platform – it’s why I created this website that’s all about purpose, passion, confidence, and belief in yourself. That’s what drives me, and that’s how I share my business intentionally, not aimlessly. I want to make an impact, and I want YOU to as well.
The surefire way to eliminate fear in your prospecting is to show the world a little bit of YOU. Be authentic. Be transparent. There’s a saying that you can be SUCCESFUL or you can be SIGNIFICANT. Successful is usually geared around YOU…but significance is focused on OTHERS. I believe true success only comes when you have mastered significance.
Customers aren’t buying just the product or just the opportunity that we’re offering. They’re buying YOU. They’re asking themselves, “Can I trust her? Can I work with her?” That’s why it’s so important to prospect intentionally, with heart, and show potential customers the real you.
Figure Out Your WHY
What’s the driving force that made you say YES to this business? What’s your driving force to keep it significant today? I always advise my team members to ask themselves these questions. When you can answer them, you can and will eliminate the fear behind prospecting.
Most people start a business with a financial goal. “I want to make $500 or $1,000 a month.” In order to truly prospect with love, why not instead say, “I want to IMPACT 500 people this month” or “I want to IMPACT 1,000 people this month.”
My challenge to you, if you are looking for a way to attract people to your business, is to be YOU. Come from a selfless place of what’s in your customer’s best interest, not what’s in YOUR best interest. Pay it forward and prospect with heart.
