Eliminate Lies! How to Live Up To Your Potential

What’s going on between your ears? Seriously. What voices are you hearing inside your head? Is the negative committee holding a convention inside of it or are sincere and uplifting thoughts making themselves comfortable and calling your head their home?

If you’re anything like me, you have to constantly sift your thoughts and weed out the truth from lies. Beware: this is a full-time job and not for the weak or faint of heart!

Acceptable, accurate, admirable, agreeable, fair, feasible, focused and forgiving thoughts…pull up a chair and stay awhile!

Callous, course, cutting, creepy, cruel, damaging, deplorable, and distressing thoughts…you gotta go!

Stories We Tell Ourself

Let’s talk about negative self-talk, low self-esteem, and the lies that hold us back from living fully.

Oftentimes, the ugly, degrading, heartless things we think about ourselves could fill up a book while the kind, tender, and grace-filled things would barely fill up a post-it-note. Why? Because sometimes we shrink what’s possible to fit the narrative that we believe about ourselves. We give hundreds of reasons why we can’t or shouldn’t do something.

  • I’m too old.
  • I’m too young.
  • I’m not smart enough.
  • If people really knew me they wouldn’t like me.
  • I’m not worthy enough.
  • I have no purpose/value
  • I’m not pretty enough
  • My past defines my future.

Make Your Mind Mind

Let’s turn those lies on their head and expand our mind into thinking and believing (because it’s true) that:

  • Anything is possible.
  • Everyone deserves do-overs and that your past in no way/shape/form defines you.
  • You are a masterpiece created by The Master.
  • Confidence looks really good on you.
  • You are enough, just the way you are.
  • You have gifts and talents inside of you.
  • Perfection is impossible. Each of us is perfectly imperfect!

Speaking affirming words to yourself is key! I recently created some beautiful Affirmation Cards that I’d like to share with you. If you want to make some positive changes in your life you can start with my cards and then create your own!

A New You

Now that you’ve called BS on the lies (and I hope you have!), it’s time to make moves and begin living up to your fullest potential.

Try new things. Identify things that bring you joy and that make you happy and then pursue them. Take massive action. Choose things that are just out of reach and that make you step out of your comfort zone. Be persistent. Be tough. Don’t give up.

When you’re afraid of doing scary things or are unsure of yourself, change your perspective and ask yourself this question: 𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙖𝙢 𝙄 𝙗𝙪𝙨𝙮 𝙙𝙤𝙪𝙗𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙮𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙢𝙮 𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡 𝙥𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙡?

Think you can’t? Think again because, “yes”, you can. You don’t need to be perfect to be amazing!

Listen Up!

Remember this:

  • Your self worth isn’t dependent on what people think of you.
  • You don’t have to prove yourself to anyone.
  • You’re not being rated, voted on, or up for review.

You can be weird, wacky, quirky, quiet, the life of the party standoff-ish…anything! The world needs you in whatever way, shape, or form that you are! What the world does not need is a cookie-cutter carbon copy. It needs YOU!

Believe this. Claim this. Don’t ever forget this. And then laugh. Because that negative committee that was once inside your head will be watching from the sidelines as your confidence soars! BTW, confidence looks really good on a person, be sure to wear it often.

I’ll leave you with this quote: “There are people less qualified than you, doing the things you want to do, simply because they believed in themselves. Period.”

*Leave me a comment and let me know what you think. What lies are you believing about yourself? What is holding you back from reaching your potential? Are you discontent with the way things are going due to your lack of confidence in yourself?
